A Fraternity Hero: Joseph A. Ricci, uncle of John Salimbene and Brother-in-law of Rocco Salimbene (all Xi) , was killed in World War II as a navy co-pilot. Joe saved his bomber crew when the plane was hit and the pilot temporarily blinded by the flash. Joe, as he was dying, was able to turn on the auto pilot. The pilot regained his sight and brought the plane in safely. The pilot and rest of the crew survived because of Joe's heroic action.
