2017 Alpha Phi Delta Scholarship Winners
55 Scholarships were awarded to deserving recipients at the 2017 National Council meeting at the Red Lion in Harrisburg, PA.
In addition to receiving a record number of applications, we awarded a record number of scholarships! Twenty two of our scholarships are from $1,000 to $4,000 and thirty two are at the $500 level. The total awards for the year are $47,000!!

Anthony Carfang Award ($4,000) Established by the 36th National President and current Foundation Chairman. He is the all-time leading financial donor to the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation.
Samy Hegazy
Samy graduated St. John’s University with a criminal justice major and a 3.7 GPA. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree. A former chapter officer, Samy supports himself financially after the death of his surviving parent in 2014. He has a long history of chapter and community involvement. His Associate Dean says “he is a gentleman who treats others with dignity and respect”. He is a repeat APD scholarship winner.
Samy Hegazy
Samy graduated St. John’s University with a criminal justice major and a 3.7 GPA. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree. A former chapter officer, Samy supports himself financially after the death of his surviving parent in 2014. He has a long history of chapter and community involvement. Stanley Raffa Award ($2,500) Established by the 30th National President and former Scholarship Chairman.
Jenna Smith
Jenna is a law student at the University of Pennsylvania and earned recognition as a Fulbright Scholar while at Arizona State University. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and co-founded REACH, an underserved area boys and girls club in Arizona. Jenna continues her community work with under-resourced high schools teaching students constitutional rights and responsibilities. She is a repeat APD scholarship winner.

Dana is the granddaughter of Bro. Joe Creston, and attends Duquesne University pursuing her master’s as a physician’s assistant. She maintains a 3.9 GPA entering the senior year of a five year program. She volunteers in a nursing home as one of many community activities. Dana is a previous APD scholarship winner.
John J. Hadgkiss Centennial Scholarship ($2,000) Funded by Beta Rho alumnus John Hadgkiss, Scholarship Trustee.
Nathan Lanning
A founding brother of Episilon Lambda at the University of New Haven, Nathan is a senior marine biology and environmental science dual degree major. He is a Presidential Scholar as well as a National Science Foundation Research awardee.
Ernest Coletti Award ($1,500) Established by the Mohawk Valley Alumni Club & former District Gov.Ernest Coletti.
Philip Waknin
Philip attends Hofstra University School of Law and was a founding brother at Episilon Eta (Queens College of the City University of New York). He is a former Assistant District Governor and Chapter President.
Anthony & Stella Barbieri Award ($1,500) Established by Brother Anthony & Rosina Barbieri in honor of his parents.
Andrew Ebert
Andrew attends St. Francis University and has served as Beta Lambda president and vice president while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. In year 5 of a 7 year physical therapy doctorate program, Andrew is a Founders Award Scholarship winner. His Director of student engagement says he is an “incredible example of a scholar and a gentleman”. He is a repeat APD scholarship winner.

Nicole Torchia
Nicole is the daughter of brother Anthony Torchia and attends the Yale School of Medicine Physician’s Assistant program. She completed her undergraduate studies with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her professor says “she is actively engaged as a student and citizen in our community”. She is a repeat APD scholarship winner.
Brother Camillus Casey Award ($1,000) Honoring former National Chaplain Bro. Camillus Casey
Troy Calcasi
His campus employment supervisor says “he rises to all challenges with a positive attitude”. Troy is a criminal justice senior at Gamma Sigma (St. John’s University) with a 3.8 GPA.
Felix Infausto Scholarship ($1,000) Established by his widow Clara Infausto in her will. Bro. Infausto was inducted into Epsilon chapter in 1929.
Vincent Maimone
A sophomore accounting major with a 4.0 GPA, Vincent is the Vice President of the LaSalle University (Epsilon Beta) Accounting Honor Society.
Lillian Anastasio Family Scholarship ($1,000) Established by her children, including Theta Beta alumnus and APD Scholarship Trustee Neil Anastasio.
Amanda Rosinski
Amanda is a previous scholarship winner who is pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She is also a research assistant in her program. She has received numerous academic honors and has a long history of community volunteerism.
Long Island Alumni Club John Pasta Award ($1,000) Established by the LIAC in honor of the 7th Grand Consul.
Megan Goedeker
The daughter of Brother Randy Goedeker, Megan graduated Cum Laude and will begin law school at Case Western Reserve University in the fall. Megan is active in campus ministries.

Ryan Simpson
A Penn State Altoona Colony founder, Ryan is entering his sophomore year as a statistics major. He is the ice hockey manager and club president and solely supports himself in college.
Paul J Sciullo II Memorial Award ($1,000) An American hero and Psi brother, Paul was killed in the line of duty as a Pittsburgh police officer.
Laura Reizine
Laura is the niece of Brother Jack Consiglio. She is entering her senior year with a 3.9 GPA as a nursing major. Laura hopes to become a nurse practitioner. She is the Nursing class president and a six semester honors student. Laura is a repeat APD scholarship winner.
Richard Rau Scholarship Award ($1,000) In honor of the late Richard Rau, brother at St. Francis College (NY).
Robin Lieb
Attending the State University of New York Albany, Robin is an officer in Epsilon Eta chapter. He is a senior business administration major in the Honors College with a 3.9 GPA. His department chairman describes him as “one of the best students I have worked with”. He is a repeat APD scholarship winner.
Military Scholarship ($1,000) Established by, and in honor of, the military veterans of Alpha Phi Delta.
Thomas Piccione
Tom attends the University of Notre Dame and is the son of Brother Tom Piccione. He is a junior finance and psychology major with a 3.7 GPA. “He makes a dazzling impression and is a piercing and innovative thinker” says his professor.

Morgan Might
Morgan is a math and computer science sophomore at John Carroll University with a 3.8 GPA. She is the daughter of Brother Paul Might and is very active in the university Faith Community.
North Jersey Alumni Club Award ($1,000) Honoring Americo Faruolo, member of Beta Xi chapter and the NJAC.
Gabriel Hamawi
A second year student at the Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine, Gabe graduated Gamma Xi at Southern Connecticut State University.
Youngstown Alumni Club Donald “Red” Nolfi Award ($1,000) Established in honor of Red Nolfi, the first Beta Omicron (Youngstown State University) president and a guiding force for area alumni.

Gabrielle is the niece of Brother Perry Chappano. She is a senior microbiology major with a 3.7 GPA, a peer chemistry tutor, and is active in her sorority at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a repeat APD scholarship winner.

Austin Oglesby
Austin is a former chapter president and founder of the Relay for Life Dinner at St. John’s University (Gamma Sigma). He is a business management major from North Carolina and is the recipient of the student government “Who’s Who” award.
Joseph and Janet Caldarella Family Award ($1,000) Established in recognition of the positive impact APD has had on their family, and in memory of Salvatore Caldarella.
Kathryn Monaghan
A classics major graduate of Tuft’s University, Kathryn is currently enrolled in the Columbia University Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She is the granddaughter of Brother Fred Bovoso.
Panella Family Scholarship ($1,000) Established by late Brother Leon Panella and family. Leon was a Scholarship Trustee and served as a Foundation Director.

Ramzy is a former Gamma Sigma (St. John’s University) vice president and pledgemaster. He graduated cum laude with a 3.7 GPA and currently attends his second year at the New York School of Law. He is a repeat APD scholarship winner.

Alana is the granddaughter of Brother John Liotta. She is a senior involved in many campus activities while maintaining a 3.8 GPA working part time to support her tuition. Rudolf is a member of the Penn State Altoona Colony and is a Political Science and English major with a 3.6 GPA.
Domenic Mente Award ($500) Established by Neumann College alumnus Joseph O’Keefe in honor of his mentor.

A senior at Rutgers University (Delta Omicron), he maintains a 3.9 GPA and hopes to work in government service after obtaining his MPA. Intashan’s brothers say, “he makes those around him better”. Intashan is a repeat APD scholarship winner.

Originally from Hawaii, Ichitaro began his college career at Marist College (Delta Theta) and has transferred to Boston University where he will be starting his sophomore year in the fall.

Madison attends the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University as a biology major.
The Santo J. Barbarino Award ($500) Created by the Scholarship Trustees in honor of late trustee’s contributions to scholarship. A past National President, he also served as District Governor and editor of the Kleos. He was a beloved educator and this award is presented annually to an undergraduate brother who has successfully overcome significant challenges to his academic career. This award is in addition to any other award received.

A senior economics major and teaching assistant at Rutgers University, Gary’s family were hurricane Sandy victims and are still rebuilding their lives after that tragedy.
Raymo Santilli Family Award ($500) Created by Psi alumnus Raymo Santilli who is a Scholarship Trustee.
Collin Tesch
Collin is the son of brother Gregory Tesch and attends the University of South Carolina. He is a finance and economics major and has been on the Dean’s List multiple times.
Richard Primiano Award ($500) Established by the late 38th National President and longtime Scholarship Trustee.

As a Presidential Scholar at Simmons College of Boston University, Emma maintains a 3.7 GPA. She is the granddaughter of brother Alfred Buccalo.

A full time registered nurse at the New York University Health System, Lauren is pursuing her master’s in nursing education.
Rocco A. Sutera Scholarship ($500) Created by a gift in the will of Beta Eta (Brooklyn College) alumnus Rocco Sutera. He served as Chairman of the Long Island Alumni Club John Pasta Award prior to its merger with the National Scholarship Fund.

Matthew is a computer science major at Marist College (Delta Theta). He is active in campus ministry and student government.
Russo Family Scholarship ($500) Brothers John and Paul Russo and their families honor the memory of their parents, Anthony and Marie Russo.

He is a Presidential Scholarship award winner at Misericordia University (Episilon Theta). Issam is a senior sports management major.
